Since the 1920’s the Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium have hosted events of all sizes, producing millions of memories in Charlotte. Legends, like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Christina Aguilera, have played at our venues; foundations were created for some of sports entertainment’s finest: from Jim Crockett Promotions/NWA wrestling to UFC;
Charlotte’s professional sports also originated here: the Dixie League’s Charlotte Clippers played exhibition games with the NFL teams of the 1940’s; the Carolina Lightnin’ won the Queen City its first ever professional championship; today the Charlotte Hounds of the MLL are the Carolinas’ premier lacrosse team.
